Charl Schwartzel wins The Masters

Wow, what a finish!  Going into the final round, didn't it look like Rory McIlroy was all set for a "wire-to-wire" finish?  Heck, with 63 holes down, it still looked like Rory was going to end the day in a green jacket.  Well, McIlroy would fall apart in the back nine, opening the door for Adam Scott or KJ Choi, or Jason Day, or even Tiger Woods for that matter.  But it was Charl Schwartzel who would close the day with four straight birdies, including a 20-foot putt on the final hole, to become the first golfer ever to achieve that feat at The Masters.  When it was all over, Phil Mickelson, the defending Masters' champ, was slipping the green on the back of the South African.

Here at GolfUnlimited, the first event went to Putt This 3.  Many entries had Rory McIlroy, Jim Furyk, and Geoff Oglivy as three of their golfers.  Some would have Tiger Woods as their team captain instead of Rory and many selected either Rickie Fowler or KJ Choi as their "write-in" fourth.  No one, absolutely no one, had Schwartzel on their team.  Putt This 3 had Woods, Furyk, and Oglivy in her mix which kept her on pace through the final two rounds.  But it was her write-in choice of Jason Day which separated her from the back.  As the only GU'er with Day on her roster, Putt This 3 came in four strokes better than the next four competitors to take The Masters.  The tables below show Current Standings and Final Results for the first event -- take a look to see how you faired.

Next Up: The U.S. Open

Foursomes for the second event -- U.S. Open -- will be due by Noon on Saturday, June 18th

With one down and three to go, our next event is the U.S. Open.  It will be played at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland during the week of June 13th.  Foursomes will be due by noon on the 18th.  You can select a fresh foursome or let the one you had for The Masters roll forward (most folks opt for a new foursome).  The Commish will post a foursome entry form during the beginning of the week of play.  On that form, there's a good chance the Commish will add in one more element (a Caddy or Team Captain feature) which, as it seems, may be necessary for tie-breaking purposes (had too many duplicate rosters for The Masters -- need something extra for a breakout).  But don't sweat that now.  Just make a note to yourself to get back to this website by the morning of June 18th.  Keep in mind that we pay a little cash to the winner of each event and then we save the rest for a Season Champ award (for which everyone can still compete).  See in you June.
